Mince Pie

As I never got around to completing the pomegranate painting I thought I would offer you a mince pie instead. Happy Christmas!

Fondant Fancies

I have not done much in the way of watercolour painting since the beginning of summer. The fondant fancies painting was done in my weekly class last week. I know that it isn't very good - in fact I was going to tear it to pieces so that I didn't have to look at my poor effort again!

Anyway, I decided to keep it to remind myself not to paint in haste! I took more time over the cake on the right and was not so careful in applying the paint on the chocolate cake. This was a very challenging task for me and in places the cake was stuck to the wrapper so that the icing on the cake showed through. It was hard to capture this with the paints. Hopefully I will be more successful with my next painting which will be of a pomegranate!

Alien Spider

I bet this spider provided lots of inspiration for 'outer space' movies.

I really find him quite cute.

I like this photo most of all watching him tippy toeing down a blade of grass.

Kitty's Bad Dream

For my latest painting I selected a group of objects that I like including a fluffy Easter chick decoration, a small broken china cat and a fish shaped spoon rest. I then had to decide how to put these objects together to paint a picture.

My son has been having his SATS exams this week at school and has been having nightmares.

I decided to paint 'Kitty's Bad Dream'.

Not only does Kitty have a large fish on his tail he has a powder puff of a chick mocking him at the same time!

As my last picture was very busy and overworked I think I will leave this picture as it is. I am still not completely happy with it but I like the concept and may do an improved version at a later date.

It is now time to put away the paints before I spoil what I have already done!

Lessons Learnt

Today I attended my weekly watercolour painting class. The lesson is two hours long and there is not enough time to complete a painting. I partially did the painting in the class and thought I would finish it at home.

The object of the lesson was to take some personal objects and use them within the picture. I drew my teddy his actual size but I made my marcasite bird brooch 10 times bigger as with the Lily of the Valley flowers. We had to create interesting backgrounds so that the background was part of the main picture. I quite liked the painting as it was in the picture above. But I continued on when really I should have stopped.

Lesson 1: Know when to stop.

Lesson 2: Be gentle when removing the masking tape or risk tearing off part of the picture.

My Garden - an Alternative View

Fern says hello! Do you see her waving?

The dandelion seed head makes such an interesting shadow.

Mr. Potato head is waiting for his hair. Should it be mint or chives or curly parsley?!!!

Camellia heads - their story over.

Spiders meeting.

The mutant cat. Half cat, half demon about to attack my camera strap.

Mutant cat (aka Gizmo) really pulling at the strap now.

Ah bless him. He only wanted to floss his teeth!
